The Test of Legal English Skills (TOLES) is an international certification developed by Global Legal English in the UK to assess the proficiency and accuracy of legal professionals in using legal English. It supports working lawyers in their daily tasks as it is more practical rather than academic. TOLES is currently the only practical exam available in the market that has been specifically produced for the legal profession to meet the needs of reputable international commercial law firms and in-house legal affairs’ department. By obtaining such certification, delegates demonstrate that they have reached the standard of legal English that is highly recognized and required by relevant employers.
The TOLES Foundation is the gateway for mastering key legal vocabulary in different areas of law as it equips delegates with relevant skills to practice the profession, including contract drafting styles, effective communication and presentation, negotiation, commercial awareness, international legal terminology, use of specific vocabulary in context and register in varied legal texts, correct grammar, as well as natural collocations.

TOLES is ideal for anyone who works in the legal profession at any level, including law firms, legal consultancies, in-house legal affairs’ departments, etc. Legal professionals who take the TOLES Foundation include legal consultants, legal counsels, legal advisors, lawyers, legal support staff, legal assistants, legal secretaries, legal affairs’ managers, legal translators, company secretaries, paralegals, judges, etc.
The TOLES Foundation training course prepares delegates to sit the TOLES Foundation exam. Both the course and exam are recognized and accredited by the Government of Dubai Legal Affairs’ Department (LAD) to promote Continuous Legal Professional Development (CLPD) training. The TOLES Foundation training and exam are conducted at the LAD Training Centre over a period of five (5) days for a total of five (5) hours a day (4pm – 9pm). These courses are delivered in partnership with ENLITE Training Institute.
